Let's Talk About New Year's Resolutions

How’re people doing this day after Christmas? Because we don’t celebrate Christmas, and it wasn’t until my adulthood that I became close with people who do, I am still never quite sure how the post-Christmas day looks. Share what you are doing today in the comments below!

 

Since we are almost at New Year’s Day, though, let’s take a minute to talk about New Year’s Resolutions. Chances are, you’ve made them before, and chances are good that you are planning to make some New Year’s resolutions in honor of this New Year. Are you going to keep those resolutions, though? Not likely, according to psychologists who have studied this phenomenon. In fact, only 8% of the people who make a New Year’s Resolution will be able to keep it by the time the year is over. What a depressing thought.

 

What should we do to make those resolutions more likely to be successful? Lots of things, in turns out. You can check out these websites, here:

It turns out that the key to successful resolutions is to make them attainable, and to do that, to break the resolutions into concrete, specific, and realistic plans. Like, for example, set the alarm for 20 minutes earlier three times a week to spend time on an exercise bicycle or doing an online fitness video. That is more attainable then, run a full marathon by the end of May, for example. Although, of course, you should feel free to train for that and run that too!
